Peace Day
The third Sunday in May
Annually

Peace Day on the third Sunday in May was started in May of 1996 to commemorate our loved one Matthew Meiko Hill's 20th birthday. At 19 years young, on November 12,1995 Matthew Meiko Hill fell victim to a SENSELESS act of violence as he stood trying to protect a friend in Boston's South End. Out of our family's and the community's grief and pain PEACE DAY was born. By focusing the minds of people on PEACE & non-violence for 24 hours, we hope to demonstrate that we can love and respect each other for at least a 24 hour period. In May, 1996 Govenor William Weld of Massachusetts officially proclaimed PEACE DAY be celebrated. Lets help this young person's memory live on in peace.
